"Story" is an awfully generous word. It's really a picture gallery. I think. I opened the page to see that the first picture features the (rather fantastic) bare midriff of an Atlanta Falcons cheerleader. Seeing that I wanted to read this "news" while at work, I decided having pictures of scantily-clad blondes up on my work computer might not be the best idea, so I quickly closed my browser.
I don't have any problem with dedicating an image gallery to the beautifully-figured, spandex-clad cheerleaders of the NFL. For as little money as NFL cheerleaders make from their jobs, my guess would be that many of them did not decide to take the position for the wages, but more for the hope that it would lead to future opportunities. I'll listen to arguments that such pictures objectify women and all that jazz, but seriously, NFL cheerleaders have chosen to objectify themselves in hopes of some greater success, by and large. At least, that's my theory.
The bigger issue I have is why such a link appears on the front page of CNN's site. I don't want to hold the network to some ivory-tower standard of journalistic ethics, but when most people turn to CNN.com to read more about 20,000 people dying in Pakistan, it seems to me that a link to a photo gallery blatantly designed to encourage the more base desires of men is a little misplaced on the home page of a world news leader.
